Description
Create the best flavor cherry tomato spaghetti sauce with this easy to follow step-by-step recipe. Perfect for a quick and delicious meal any night of the week.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (about 4 cups) cherry tomatoes, halved
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- (Optional) Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- 1. Prep Ingredients: Wash and halve cherry tomatoes. Mince garlic and chop basil.
- 2. Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn.
- 3. Add Tomatoes & Simmer: Add halved cherry tomatoes to the skillet. Increase heat to medium-high and stir to coat. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tomatoes soften and their skins begin to burst.
- 4. Burst Tomatoes: Use the back of a spoon or a potato masher to gently crush any remaining whole tomatoes, releasing their juices and creating a rustic sauce.
- 5. Finish: Remove from heat. Stir in fresh basil. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve immediately over your favorite pasta.
