  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

Discover how to make the best cherry tomato spaghetti sauce with this easy to bake, step-by-step recipe. This vibrant, naturally sweet, and savory sauce is perfect for any pasta dish and comes together in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint (about 2 cups) cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
  • 45 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped

Instructions

  • 1. Prepare Ingredients: Wash and halve the cherry tomatoes. Mince the garlic.
  • 2. Sauté Garlic: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to brown it.
  • 3. Simmer Tomatoes: Add halved cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper, and optional sugar to the skillet. Increase heat to medium. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tomatoes soften and burst. Gently press some tomatoes with the back of a spoon to help them break down.
  • 4. Mash for Consistency: Use a potato masher or spoon to mash the tomatoes to your desired consistency. Continue to simmer for another 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  • 5. Finish with Basil: Remove from heat. Stir in fresh basil. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve immediately over your favorite pasta.
