Ingredients
- 24 oz (approx. 3 cups) unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine applesauce, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well and pour into the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Pour in the melted butter and milk. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spoon dollops of the topping mixture over the applesauce filling.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into a topping dollop comes out clean, and the filling is bubbling.
- Serve warm with your favorite additions like ice cream or whipped cream.
