The Kitchen Garden Company is proud to announce that we are selling this fantastic system for turning kitchen waste and scraps–including meat, bones, fish, plate scrapings and normal vegetable matter–into rich bio-active soil quickly and easily without the odors and trauma of normal composting methods.
The Kit consists of a bucket–shown here with lid and grate–and 1 gallon of Bokashi Compost activator (not shown)–a bio-active, microbially innoculated wheat and rice bran which activated the kitchen waste, fermenting it–much like the process behind pickles, yogurt and kim chee.
Because what little odor there is is pleasant and not offensive this system is perfect for homes, apartments, offices, schools or restaurants.
We will provide support and assistance with your bucket system and help you troubleshoot any problems you might have along the way. Because the Bokashi itself is easy to make we can, if you decided you wish to go that route, provide you with materials and resources for making your own.
You can find out more about how the buckets are used here. Because the bucket, when full, takes two weeks to ferment before it is ready to bury in your garden, planter boxes or traditonal compost pile, we highly recommend having two to use in rotation.
We are selling the Single Bucket Kit (with Bokashi)–either tan or black–for $54.95 and Two Buckets (with Bokashi) for $99, plus shipping. For more information, please contact us or visit our Products Page. Additional supplies of commercially made Bokashi Bran are also available. I am confident you will be as pleased and excited with the results of your system as we are with ours.
This same system is in use around the world and is being used by several major cities like London (and here and here) to reduce the amount of waste in landfills.
12/26/07–UPDATE: Please look here for more information on why we are no longer selling these products.
